Nine suspected members of Jaish al-Nakshabandia were arrested during a joint police-army operation in Mosul, Iraqi police in Ninawa province announced Monday (January 30th).
Lt. Col. Khalid al-Hamdani, a Ninawa police spokesperson, told Al-Shorfa that Iraqi forces obtained intelligence regarding the gunmen's whereabouts. The suspects were using a building that was falsely portrayed as a real estate company.
Al-Hamdani said the group was using the building as a headquarters for storing weapons. A number of shells, missiles, explosives and computers containing video recordings of terrorist operations that the group was planning to post on the internet were found at the site.
He said the gunmen were transferred to a temporary detention facility pending their referral to the Iraqi judiciary.
