A police officer and nine members of his family were killed when militants blew up his house using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the al-Musayyib district, Iraqi police in Babil province said Thursday (January 26th).
Maj. Ahmed Derham, a Babil police spokesperson, told Al-Shorfa the gunmen attacked the house of Capt. Ahmed Zwain, an anti-terrorism unit officer, using IEDs that were planted around the house at night and exploded Thursday morning.
He said the blasts killed the officer, his wife, five of his children, his sister and his parents.
Derham said the house collapsed completely on the victims, and emergency personnel needed several hours to retrieve the bodies from under the rubble.
