The Iraqi Ministry of Construction and Housing said Tuesday (January 17th) that it signed a contract with Saudi Arabia's al-Jouf Company to build a large salt-resistant cement factory.

Abdullah al-Hamiri, spokesperson for the Ministry of Construction and Housing, told Al-Shorfa the contract "aims to meet the growing needs for cement in reconstruction projects in Iraq that have now increased."

He said the factory would have a total capacity of 5,000 tonnes per day and would cost about $40 million to build.

The new plant will be located in Baghdad and will employ Iraqi workers while the Saudi company will provide technical support.
