Iraqi security forces foiled an assassination attempt on legislator Jale Neftiçi in central Kirkuk Thursday morning (January 12th), police officials said.

Lt. Col. Kamran Mustafa al-Jaf, Kirkuk's deputy police chief, told Al-Shorfa that three gunmen tried to storm Neftiçi's house, but security forces killed them during a confrontation.

Al-Jaf said al-Qaeda was probably responsible for the attack.
