Iraqi police in Anbar province arrested Khamis Hasan, "a prominent leader of al-Qaeda serving as wali of Fallujah", and killed two other suspected terrorists, police announced Wednesday (December 7th).
Anbar Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar said that a joint force of Iraqi police and army personnel raided a residential building south of Fallujah after obtaining intelligence that al-Qaeda members were inside.
"There was an exchange of fire between the Iraqi forces and terrorists inside the building," Kassar said. "As a result, two gunmen and one policeman were killed. We also arrested Khamis Hasan, a leader of al-Qaeda who was appointed as wali of Fallujah."
Kassar said Hasan is a "dangerous terrorist", who is now under investigation.
