At least 21 people were killed in street protests in Sanaa on Monday (September 19th), one day after 26 people died in demonstrations in the capital, al-Jazeera reported.

Hundreds were reportedly wounded as snipers fired on protesters demanding President Ali Abdullah Saleh step down. Protesters have sought to expand the site in the capital where they have been camping for nearly eight months. The government blamed "unknown assailants".

"The attack was prepared so as to kill as many people as they could," Yemeni Deputy Information Minister Abdu al-Janadi told the BBC, calling the deaths "a plot against all the Yemeni people".
