Abdullatif al-Zayani, the secretary general of the GCC, landed in Sanaa on Saturday (April 30th) to meet with President Ali Abdullah Saleh and invite him to the negotiating table.

Al-Zayani will also invite representatives from the main opposition bloc to sign the transition agreement on Monday in Riyadh.

The visit comes one day before a GCC foreign minister meeting to finalise the plan which would require Saleh to resign within 30 days. Presidential elections would follow two months later.

The ruling General People's Congress has accepted the plan, but Saleh continues to state publicly that any transfer of power must occur in accordance with the constitution.
