Kuwait Interior Minister Sheikh Jaber Khaled al-Sabah submitted his resignation to parliament on Thursday (January 13th), a parliamentary source told Reuters. "It's up to the prime minister whether he will accept the resignation or not," the source said.

The move follows political turmoil in Kuwait over an outdoor rally held on December 8th and the death of a man held in jail.

The rally was held without a permit, and security forces clashed with participants, including opposition MPs.

This week, opposition MPs criticised the government for the death of a man at a police station. The man was unconscious when he was taken from prison to a hospital in Ahmadi. Government officials maintain he died of chest pains.

A parliamentary complaint against the Interior Minister was scheduled to be introduced in parliament Thursday.
