Prince Ali Bin al-Hussein of Jordan was elected as vice-president of FIFA on Thursday (January 6th). The vote took place in Doha and came just weeks after Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 World Cup and boosts the Arab presence in world football.
Prince Ali garnered the Arab vote and pledged to unite Asia as well.
"I want to introduce a new work ethic in Asian football," the prince said shortly before the vote. "I want to energize this position in a way that serves all our needs."
Prince Ali defeated the incumbent, South Korean Chung Mong-joon, who had held the position for 16 years.
