A shootout in southern Yemen on Wednesday (November 3rd) resulted in the death of a Yemeni soldier and an al-Qaeda suspect, Yemeni officials said.
An operation to locate terrorists launched by the Yemeni army in the town of Jaar, an area heavily influenced by al-Qaeda, ended in a gun battle that also injured 10 soldiers, AFP reported. Jaar is located in Abyan province.
The army sent additional troops as the fighting continued into the evening, witnesses reported. "Three wanted men were arrested during the operation," Yemen’s defense minister told the news website 26sep.net.
