Abdullah al-Baham, police chief in Mudia, Abyan province, was shot in the head Thursday (October 14th) during a protest to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the uprising against British rule, wire services reported.
An unidentified security official blamed the separatist Southern Movement for the shooting, but the movement denied responsibility and blamed Al-Qaeda.
Police told AFP that authorities had surrounded the house of a suspected member of al-Qaeda implicated in the killing of the police chief.
