Saudi Electricity Company wins railway contract

The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) won a contract worth 1.8 billion riyals ($480 million) to provide electricity for the Haramain High Speed Rail project that links Mecca and Medina with Jeddah, Arab News reported Wednesday (September 22nd).

Transport Minister Jabara al-Seraisry said the government is "in the process of completing all requirements to implement the Haramain Railway project as quickly as possible."

The SEC agreed to finish its work by the end of 2012, meaning the railway would open in early 2013.
