Draft law to curb "electronic divorce" in Jordan

Jordan’s highest judicial authority drafted a law that would limit cases of electronic divorce or notifying a wife of divorce by SMS, AmmounNews reported on Tuesday (February 9th). Islamic judges accepted more than 450 divorces by text message in the past year. The draft law restricts electronic divorce, but does not eliminate it. A judge would be required to determine that the message has been sent by the husband himself and that he was not acting under undue external pressure to divorce.
