Taliban insurgents launched a large-scale attack in Afghanistan's capital on Monday (January 18th) as suicide bombers targeted key locations around the city and armed militants attacked a shopping area while battling government forces, Reuters reported. The apparent aim of the Taliban was to take over government buildings in the worst attack on Kabul in more than a year. The Taliban claimed 20 fighters dispersed around the city participated in the attacks. The attacks began as Afghan President Hamid Karzai was swearing in new members of his cabinet.
