The brother of Yemen's Houthi leader was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison in absentia on charges of inciting armed rebellion and forming a gang, Al Arabiya reported Saturday (February 6th). Yahya Houthi is the brother of insurgent Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, who is fighting government forces as well as Saudi Arabia in north Yemen.
The defendant is now living in Germany as a political refugee, according to the Yemen Observer. Al-Houthi was also convicted of plotting to assassinate dignitaries in Sanaa, among other charges. He was a member of parliament, but his immunity was lifted for the trial to take place.
