Child bride drops divorce request from eighty year-old
One day before a court hearing to possibly annul her marriage, a 12-year-old Saudi girl has dropped her divorce request from an 80 year-old man she was forced to marry, Arab News reported Tuesday (February 2nd). The girl did not appear in court on Monday, and her lawyer did not provide a reason for her absence. A source at the Human Rights Commission told the paper that no one knows why the request was withdrawn. The girl reportedly told a journalist that she "doesn't want him, save me". The girl's mother, who is separated from her father, accused the 80 year-old groom of raping her daughter.
